Angola Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program

Affiliation: Agostinho University

The Angola Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (A-FELTP) was established in 2011 in close collaboration among the Angola Ministry of Health, Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and Army Health Services. The first cohort and second cohort of nine residents each was enrolled in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

As of 2018, 28 residents across 4 cohorts have graduated from the advanced-level A-FELTP program. About half of the residents have participated in the Zika, Cholera and Malaria outbreaks across the nation. Majority of the graduates are working in various public health facilities and strengthening the public health infrastructure in the nation.

During the period of October 2017 to March 2018, Cohort III residents completed their dissertations and defended their master works by September 2018 while Cohort IV residents finalized their field works (evaluation of surveillance systems; outbreak investigations; database analysis; and management project).
