Food Poisoning Outbreak investigation
Two residents of the Mozambique FETP: Cristolde Salomão (Epi Track, Cohort I) and Jorge Jone (Epi Track, Cohort II) participated in an outbreak investigation of food poisoning at Matola District, Maputo Province from 22 - 23 November with participation.
Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) Vaccination Campaign
Cohort IV residents participated in a pre-emptive mass vaccination campaign with oral cholera vaccine (OCV) was organized in Nampula city, Mozambique. A door-to-door strategy was implemented with the aim to give every volunteer beneficiary two doses for vaccination, as this offers the best protection against cholera. The first round of vaccination was held between 3 and 10 October 2016, and the second round between 24 and 31 October 2016. The target population was all persons over 1 year of age including pregnant women, who live in the targeted areas. Residents participated in Monitoring and Evaluation activities of the oral cholera vaccination (OCV) campaign.

Data collection for thesis
Marcia Langa, a Cohort II, Laboratory Track resident defended her master's thesis on 8th December 2016. Her thesis was titled: Profile of resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in samples referred to TB reference laboratories in Maputo and Beira in 2011.
9th TEPHINET Regional Scientific Conference
Three Mozambique FELTP residents participated in the 9th Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay from 12 - 16 December 2016. The theme of the conference was: New Strategies and Challenges in Integrated Response to Zika and Other Diseases in the Americas.
The residents presents three abstracts (2 oral and 1 poster) pre-conference workshops on December 11. Presentations made were titled:
- Epidemiological profile of attendance during the IX National Culture Festival in the Cities of Beira and Dondo, Mozambique, 2016 - Judite Langa Ezequias Sitoe, (Epi Track, 4th Cohort)
- Analysis of epidemiological surveillance data for pulmonary tuberculosis, 2011 to 2013 - Cristovão Saeze (Epi Track, 3rd Cohort)
- Interventions for intermittent preventive treatment and insecticide-treated mosquito nets in pregnant women attended at prenatal appointments in 11 districts of Mozambique in 2011 - Cristolde Salomão (Ep Track. 2nd Cohort)
Mozambique Scientific Conference
The Mozambique FELTP held the 3rd Scientific Meeting and Closing Ceremony of Cohort III was held in Maputo from 20-22 October 2016. The conference had participation of residents from the Angola FELTP, Guiné Bissau and Paraguai.
