12 health workers graduate from cohort 4 of Mozambique FETP; promise improved service delivery

Twelve more health technicians have recently graduated from the frontline tier of the Mozambique Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) at a ceremony presided over by the delegate of the National Institute of Health in Nampula Dr Armérico Barata.

Speaking during the 31 August 2022 graduation ceremony, the new frontline disease detectives noted that the knowledge acquired would go a long way towards improving their work when it comes to epidemiological surveillance management in their respective areas of operation.

Mr Eugénio Macamo, noted that the training was of great relevance, given that at the level of his district, there have been difficulties to do case follow-up and in-depth studies regarding some health events.

"With this training, we leave here with knowledge favorable to the process of investigation of outbreaks or epidemiological events and we are equipped with the ability to carry out the description of an index case to the last, with a good graphic representation, which we did not know how to do", he observed, adding that they would henceforth be able to make reliable information available to their superiors, which will help in making the right decisions.

Ms Altina da Glória stressed that the course is of great importance, as it will help to investigate outbreaks. Ahead of her, she said she had the challenge of working to improve the indicators of surveillance at the provincial level. "We went through a very important training process, which helped us solidify our knowledge, which will bring a great improvement and evaluate not only for our districts, but also for the province."

As for Mr Wilson Muarapaz, "The package I received in this training will help me a lot, having added to my knowledge, so that I can identify some factors that I could not within my program. With this, I feel mature to face any kind of outbreak."

Mr Muarapaz further noted that he expects changes in his district, considering that, when faced with an emergency situation, he used to proceed in a haphazard manner, due to the lack of important elements of instruction.
