DRC ACoDD teams supported the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the previously declared Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in Bikoro (Equator Province) on the 8th May 2018. Following laboratory confirmation of two cases of EVD from five samples were collected from patients. All initial cases were reported from Ikoko-Iponge health facility located about 30 kilometres from Bikoro. The outbreak spread from Bikoro to Mbandaka City and Iboko District.
EVD OUTBREAK RESPONSE REPORT JUNE – JULY 2018
On 9 May 2018, the AFENET Regional Technical Coordinator – Dr Ditu Kazambu (West and Central Africa Francophone countries) received an official request from the DRC Ministry of Health Disease Surveillance Director, to support the EVD outbreak response. AFENET Corps of Disease Detectives (ACoDD) were rapidly mobilized and deployed within 72 hours to boost the national rapid response team. The ACoDD team is taking lead in surveillance and contact tracing.
