Highlights of Kenya FELTP Achievements September – December 2018

The Kenya Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program celebrated several achievements in the quarter September – December 2018. The program held two advanced level cohort trainings in the quarter for 20 residents in cohort 14 and 20 residents in cohort 15. Cohort 15 completed their didactic trainings and were attached to various placement sites.

 

The program held one basic level epidemiology class, comprising 35 participants who enrolled in the quarter and completed training. Of those, 34 participants of the basic epidemiology class graduated while one course participant is expected to graduate in the next class. 24 participants of the intermediate level class was enrolled, trained and graduated on 30th November 2018.

 

All three cohorts of the IMPACT program, attended classes at Kenyatta University (KU) on various dates from 5 – 23 November 2018.  Eight (8) fellows of Cohort III were enrolled in November, 2018 and underwent KU and MOH orientation from 5 – 8 November.  Fellows were posted to various field placement sites on 4th December. Cohorts I & II fellows sat for their end of semester exams on 3 – 7 December 2018 while Cohort III did their exams on 18 & 19 December, 2018. The Distinguished Fellows Program (DFP) classes started in August 2018 and run until January 2019.

A total of 12 residents graduated between September – December 2018. They Include 9 residents of cohort 12 who are Esther Ngina, Robert Rono, George Karoki, Eunice Wachira, Abubakhar Hussein, Lawrence Gitonga, Khadija Chepkorir, Arithi Mutembei and Eliud Wainaina. Mark Obonyo, a resident of cohort 8 and Athman Mwatondo, a resident of cohort 9 also graduated.
