Residents of the Mozambique FETP participated in a surveillance exercise at a traditional gathering in Marracuene District in Maputo Province, Mozambique. The traditional ceremony “Gwaza-Muthine” takes place annually and attracts between 30,000 - 40,000 people. The ceremony also known as “The Battle of Marracuene”, is held in remembrance of the anti-colonial resistance against the Portuguese colonial army in 1895.
The Mozambique FELTP team participated in early detection for any public health threats. They also supported collection and analysis of health data from 2 – 3 February 2020. A risk assessment was also conducted before, during and after the event.
