Dr. Notion Gombe - Regional Technical Coordinator - Southern and Lusophone Africa provided technical support to the Namibia FETP from 15 – 29 February 2020. Dr Gombe covered topics such as; introduction to public health surveillance, public health surveillance objectives design and development, and surveillance system monitoring and evaluation.
He incorporated case studies into the training to reinforce theory concepts. Although the program has produced 28 field epidemiologists, they still need mentorship and coaching to enhance their teaching capacity. The Namibia FETP has been operating without a Resident Advisor since October 2019; therefore the services of experienced field epidemiologists to support teaching and mentoring alumni is critically needed.
