Support COVID-19 response in Cabo Delgado and Sofala Provinces

On May 10, 2020, six new positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Pemba, a port city in Mozambique. It is the capital of the province of Cabo Delgado and lies on a peninsula in Pemba Bay. A total of 10 patients with acute respiratory infection were identified in the health units in Pemba and are tested daily. To better understand the transmission chains of these new cases, a team from the Ministry of Health was assigned to travel to Cabo Delgado and monitor the activities of the delegations in the city of Pemba.

Auria Banze, a graduate of the Mozambique FELTP and one other FELTP graduate, joined the Ministry of Health team and mainly supported activities in the Cabo Delgado Provincial Directorate in investigating the source of the transmission chains of the new cases identified and supported the implementation of an active surveillance system in the province.
