AFENET Systems Strengthening Training - Liberia

As part of Systems Strengthening the Internal Audit and Risk Management department held a one-week risk and compliance training to a few countries every year in the network. So far 8 countries including Angola, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria, DRC, and Liberia have benefited from the training that draws participants from the country programs and the AFENET country offices.

The training facilitated by AFENET's Internal Audit and Risk Management unit's team: Mr. Bwakura Mchengeti, Mr. Brian Kaganzi and assisted by Mr. Davis Ashaba - Laboratory Project Manager, focuses on making participants more aware of the critical function of risk management and its role in the designing of the internal control system of any organization.

The most recent training was held in Liberia had 15 participants and below is what some of the participants had to say after the training.

"The risk management and compliance training has been one of the best things to happen to us as the AFENET Liberia team. Though it has come late in the day - 5 years after we established the office, it has come at a good time when the office is expanding in staffing and project scope. It has improved our consciousness about developing a good organizational culture and identifying and mitigating risks. We have become more aware of existing AFENET policies and their importance in our day-to-day operations. Our eyes have literally opened, and we are becoming and doing things better" Said Dr. Maame P Amo- Addae, Resident Advisor Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Program.

“This risk management training is the game-changer for us in Liberia. It will help AFENET Liberia to assess whether we are meeting our objectives or not. And personally, I think of ‘risk’ now on all aspects of life. An important question I gained from the training is what will you not want to see on the front pages of a Newspaper? Thanks again for the training. It was a great experience.” Said Dr. Peter Adewuyi, Field Coordinator Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Program.
