AFENET participated in a high-level engagement at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Country Office in Kinshasa on Wednesday, during the visit of the Director of the Global Health Center (GHC).
The meeting brought together implementing partners to highlight ongoing efforts in strengthening outbreak preparedness and response in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During the engagement, AFENET presented its contributions to public health response in the DRC, underscoring its longstanding collaboration with CDC since 2013 and its continued support to national and subnational health systems.
A key focus of the presentation was the role of Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) residents and AFENET-supported teams in strengthening surveillance systems, supporting outbreak investigations, and responding to priority public health threats. These efforts have been instrumental in improving data-driven decision-making and enhancing timely response to outbreaks across the country.
AFENET also highlighted its ongoing support to disease-specific responses, including measles, where multiple consultants are currently deployed in the field to support response efforts.
Through these interventions, AFENET continues to strengthen workforce capacity and support coordinated outbreak response efforts, contributing to improved health outcomes and enhanced health security in the DRC.
The engagement provided an important platform to showcase the impact of sustained partnerships in advancing public health preparedness and response. It also reaffirmed AFENET’s commitment to working collaboratively with governments and partners to protect communities and strengthen resilient health systems across Africa.
