EMMANUEL OMUS: I am proud to have established the ICT department
I joined AFENET in 2010 as a young man of 27, having already gained over five years of experience working with multinational companies as a Systems Engineer. It’s now been nearly 16 years of continuous learning, professional growth, and teamwork.
I am proud to have established the ICT department from the ground up. At the time, all ICT functions were outsourced, but today we have a robust in-house IT infrastructure that supports the organization effectively.
Throughout my time at AFENET, I have had the privilege of working across various departments-including Science and Public Affairs, the Executive Director’s Office, Administration, and now Operations. This diverse experience has broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the organization.
AFENET has significantly contributed to my professional development through numerous trainings and certifications. Moreover, working with programs across multiple countries has given me the opportunity to interact with and learn from diverse cultural backgrounds.
One of my proudest milestones has been designing and managing a complex IT infrastructure that now supports AFENET’s operations in over 40 countries. Through this journey, I have learned the importance of humility, loyalty, and respect for all, having worked with more than seven different management teams.
Given that IT is one of the most sensitive departments, maintaining high standards of ethics, data protection, and cybersecurity has been-and remains-paramount in safeguarding the organization.
Looking Ahead, with rapid advancements in technology, AFENET must leverage emerging tools such as Artificial Intelligence to analyze historical data for improved epidemic prediction and early warning systems. Achieving this will require teamwork, innovation, and a collaborative spirit across all departments.
