Cohort 4 of Intermediate FETP graduates in Mali

The graduation ceremony of the 4th Cohort of the Mali Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) took place on Friday, June 31, 2024, at the Faculty of Medicine and Odontostomatology, the University of Science, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, Bamako, Mali. The ceremony was organized by the General Directorate of Health and Public Hygiene (DGSHP) with technical support from the AFENET Mali and funding from the Global Fund.

The cohort comprised 14 residents: 13 from the Ministry of Health and Social Development and one from the Ministry of Livestock. Tragically, one participant from the health sector passed away before graduation, bringing the total number of intermediate graduates in Mali to 57. This group includes 53 from the health sector, three from livestock, and one from the environment sector.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, the Rector of the University of Mali, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – Professor Mamadou Lamine Diakité, the Country Director of the United States CDC – Dr Serigne N’Diaye, Rector of the University of Bamako: Professor Ouateni DIALLO; the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development: Dr Abdoulaye Guindo; the Director General of Health and Public Hygiene: Dr Cheick A Traore; The deputy coordinator of the Global Fund management unit: Dr Dramane KONE and several financial partners graced the occasion. Their presence underscored the importance of the program and the collective effort to strengthen Mali’s public health infrastructure.

The graduates are already playing and are expected to continue to play a critical role in enhancing disease surveillance and response capabilities across the country, marking another step forward in Mali’s commitment to health security.
