Partner Round Table meeting with CDC Director - Dr Brenda Fitzgerald at Mildmay Uganda

The Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) - Dr Brenda Fitzgerald - met key implementing partners at the Mildmay Uganda on 26 October 2017. Partners included: Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation-Uganda, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), The Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Support (METS) Program at Makerere University School of Public Health, Mildmay and AFENET. The main aim of the meeting was to foster information sharing with the CDC Directors on progress made on implementation of PEPFAR and GHSA funds.

The implementing partners (IPs) were presented the opportunity to participate in a “roundtable” poster parade discussion with the CDC chief who was accompanied by two of her directors Dr Rebecca Martin (Director of the Center for Global Health, Dr Rima Khabbaz (Director of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID)s. Through the presentations IPs were able to share the highlights from scopes of their work implemented in partnership with CDC Uganda, as well as their views on the future of collaborating with CDC Uganda—ideas, opportunities, and how to leverage comparative advantage more.

Dr Chima Ohuabunwo – Executive Director, AFENET and Dr Kayita Godfrey made presentations on AFENET supported activities on going in Uganda as well as GHSA projects and Field Epidemiology Training Programs in the Sub Saharan region.
