Dr Lazarus Kuonza is the new Chair, Board of Directors AFENET

AFENET staff were on March 22, 2024, introduced to the new Chair, Board of Directors, Dr. Lazarus Kuonza, at the organization’s secretariat in Kampala.

Dr. Kuonza, who also serves as the Program Director for the South Africa Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), and Head, Notifiable Medical Conditions Surveillance at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), replaces Prof Ernest Kenu.

Dr. Kuonza’s vision for AFENET focuses on advancing a culture of excellence and collaboration, where every member is empowered to contribute to the organization’s mission of strengthening public health systems across Africa. He highlighted the need for innovative approaches to effectively address emerging public health challenges on the continent.

As AFENET embarks on its next phase of growth and development, Dr. Kuonza’s leadership will undoubtedly steer the organization toward greater heights.
