The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) held its annual conference at the Golden Conifer in Harare from 5 - 6 September 2019. The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Preparedness and Response to Public Health Emergencies in Zimbabwe’. In the past few years, Zimbabwe has experienced public health emergencies such as disease outbreaks, road traffic accidents and natural disasters.
Various stakeholders from Ministry of Health and Child Care, Civil protection unit, Zimbabwe National Army, and non-governmental organisations shared their experiences during the aftermath of Cyclone Idai that hit part of Manicaland Province earlier in the year. Representatives from City Health Departments of Chitungwiza and Harare also shared their experiences and lessons learnt from the typhoid and cholera outbreaks of 2017.
Also in attendance was the Zimbabwe FETP team, led by Program Director- Professor Mufuta Tshimanga. Four residents presented results from studies they conducted as part of their core learning activities.
