27 health workers graduates from Somalia frontline FETP Cohort 3

Somalia Frontline FETP Cohort 3 residents, trainers, and health ministry officials after the graduation ceremony

The graduation ceremony for the 27 residents of the Cohort 3 Frontline FETP held on 24 January 2023 at Decale Hotel, Mogadishu, Somalia. The ceremony was chaired by the Deputy Minister for Health and Human Services, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Hasen Mohamed Bulaale.

Dr. Bulaale noted that “frontline field epidemiology training did not only increase the epidemiologic capacity at national and sub-national level but also addressed the skilled workforce needs at every level to detect, analyze, and respond to diseases of public health importance in Somalia since started the program.” He also stressed the commitment of the Ministry of Health to strengthen the public health emergency management system of Somalia through the development of a strong workforce using the FETP.

Dr. Bulaale acknowledged the technical and financial support of primary partners of the FETP including the US CDC, AFENET, WHO, the Public Health Agency of Sweden (PHAS), and Global Implementing Solutions (GIS) that have played a significant role in the establishment and sustainability of FETP in Somalia.
The minister was joined by the Director of the Somali National Institute of Health Dr. Abdifatah Ahmed who gave a keynote speech, Dr. Mary Kraja – WHO, Dr Tatek Bogale-AFENET (virtually) & Dr Ellen Yard – US CDC (virtually).
