On January 24, 2025, the Rwanda Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Intermediate Level celebrated the graduation of its second cohort. This group included 19 participants, comprising five from the national level, one from the provincial level, and 13 from the district level. Most of these participants represented the Ministry of Health, local government, and the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB). Despite the challenges of responding to outbreaks within the country, all trainees successfully completed an intensive nine-month program that began on December 11, 2023, and concluded on January 24, 2025.

The ceremony was presided over by the FETP program director and the manager of the Division of Public Health Surveillance and Epidemic Preparedness and Response, who represented the Director-General of the Rwanda Biomedical Centre. This event marked a major step forward in Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen its public health capacity. The occasion was also attended by the Dean of the University of Rwanda’s School of Public Health, Directors-General of district hospitals, as well as mentors and supporters who played a key role in the trainees’ journey.

This milestone highlights FETP’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery and advancing epidemiological research in Rwanda. The expertise acquired by the graduates is expected to contribute significantly to public health initiatives, particularly at the subnational level.

The Rwanda FETP extends its heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders who supported this cohort’s success. Together, we are working towards building a healthier and more resilient Rwanda.
