Today, two AFENET epidemiologists from the AFENET Secretariat in Uganda conducted a supervisory and technical support mission to AFENET Corps of Disease Detectives (ACoDD) deployed in Beni City, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The team supported a surveillance coordination meeting at Beni Health Zone Office which was chaired by the Head of Surveillance, Beni City, where ongoing surveillance activities were reviewed. They also visited Kanzuri Health Facility, which hosts the BVD suspected case isolation centre supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and Beni General Referral Hospital, home to the BVD Treatment Centre (ETC) supported by the International Medical Corps (IMC). These engagements are part of AFENET’s continued commitment to strengthening BVD outbreak response, enhancing surveillance systems, and supporting frontline response teams in DRC. Currently, AFENET, with support from the US CDC, has deployed 359 ACoDD responders to stop the ongoing BVD outbreak.
