Dr. Richard Makurumidze

Dr Makurumidze is a Specialist Public Health Physician with over 10 years of experience in clinical medicine, health programmes implementation, evaluation, teaching and research. He has worked in HIV & TB programme implementation with the following organisations: Population Services International, Global Fund, MSF and PEPFAR supported International Training Education and Centre for Health before joining the University of Zimbabwe.

He is (has been) involved in various educational, training and capacity building initiatives which include the Short Course in Antiretroviral Therapy at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium; and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care National HIV, TB & STI Mentorship and Capacity Building Programme. At the University of Zimbabwe, he teaches epidemiology, research, communicable and non-communicable diseases to undergraduates and postgraduate students. He is also involved is the supervision of postgraduate research projects for Masters and PhD students.

His PhD was a sandwich programme between the University of Zimbabwe, the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp and Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium. His research interests include HIV, Tuberculosis, COVID-19, non-communicable diseases, Maternal and child health
