Ethiopia set to pilot One Health frontline field epidemiology training program

The Ethiopia Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (EFELTP) is holding a mentors’ training of trainers (ToT), ahead of the piloting of a One Health FETP in the Tigray Regional Health Bureau.
One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach. It works at the local, regional, national, and global levels with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes cognizant of the interconnectedness between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
The four-day (August 27 to 30, 2024) ToT was on August 26 preceded by an advocacy workshop in Addis Ababa organized by the Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET).
The workshop brought together diverse partners, including representatives from EPHI, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Tigray Regional Health Bureau, the U.S. CDC, Ethiopia CDC, WHO, and USAID.
Fifteen trainees are to be selected for the pilot One Health FETP.
Whereas One Health is not a new concept, its significance has been amplified by many factors that have changed interactions between people, animals, plants, and our environment.
