Key Achievements, and Milestones of AFENET @20 in Sokoto State, Nigeria

AFENET has been a key partner in strengthening public health in Sokoto State, especially in the fight against polio and in improving routine immunization coverage. AFENET presence in Sokoto contributed through the planning and implementation of supplementary immunization activities (SIAs), outbreak response, and building strong surveillance systems at both state and LGA levels. AFENET also strengthened routine immunization activities by coordination, training frontline health workers on key RI modules, and conducting supportive supervision; efforts that have helped increase immunization coverage in hard-to-reach and underserved communities.

Beyond immunization, AFENET has worked closely with partners to strengthen the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) system in Sokoto. Through active case searches and targeted training on outbreak detection and reporting, the organization has helped improve early disease detection and response. Additionally, AFENET deployed a Data Manager to support the effective use of public health data, including the development of dashboards and visualization tools that have enhanced decision-making. These combined efforts reflect AFENET’s long-standing commitment to health security, resilience, and improved health outcomes in Sokoto State.
