Expanded Programme on Immunization Capacity Building through Fragility, Emergency and Refugees (FER) Project.
- by AFENET
Funder: UNICEF
Project period: 19 January 2022 to 19 November 2022
Background:
South Sudan is administratively divided into 10 States, 3 Administrative areas, and 80 Counties that are further divided into 605 Payams, 2,532 Bomas, and 26,544 estimated villages. The protracted conflict in South Sudan, confounded with the COVID-19 pandemic and flooding have rendered the health systems including immunization services fragile and weak, unable to address the growing and diverse needs of the population. UNICEF South Sudan Country Office (SSCO), received the Gavi Health System Strengthening (HSS) grant to support tailored intervention to reach more children with lifesaving vaccines. Additionally, Gavi identified Africa Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) for supportive supervision & monitoring and building the capacity of the MOH at national and sub-national level through its network of mentees, nationwide.
Objectives:
- To support strengthening of immunization systems and capacity of EPI Officers, vaccinators and cold chain assistants to scale up immunization services.
- To increase Penta 3 immunization coverage in South Sudan.
Expected outcome(s):
- Strengthened immunization systems and service delivery
- Increased immunization coverage for Penta 3.
