Mauritania Health ministry secretary general hosts AFENET team

A team from the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) on 23 February 2024 paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Lemine Ould Mohamed El Hadj.

This followed the graduation ceremony of the 7th frontline cohort of the Mauritania Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) where 26 public health workers were passed out following a three-month residency with the FETP.

The AFENET team comprised of the AFENET Regional Technical Coordinator for French-speaking West Africa Dr Seogo Hamadou, Mauritania FETP Resident Advisor Dr Keita Yacouba, AFENET Senior Communications Officer Mr Kakaire Ayub Kirunda, Mr Gerald Kahwa from the AFENET Finance Department, and Mauritania FETP Administrator Ms Fatma Baba.

The brief meeting agreed that prospects of the FETP program in Mauritania abound and emphasized the need for continued advocacy to attract more partners and ensure the continuity of the FETP Frontline and the introduction of the intermediate program.

The seven cohorts of the Mauritania FETP have now produced a total of 183 frontline epidemiologists since the inception of the program.
