Mozambique’s pioneer FETP intermediate cohort graduates

On May 31, 2024, Mozambique FETP held the closing ceremony for the inaugural cohort of the Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) which took place in the city of Beira, Mozambique. The event was presided over by Faiza Salle the Intermediate Level Coordinator and featured opening remarks from Joao Manuel the provincial delegate the provincial delegate of the National Institute of Health (INS) for Sofala Province. The delegate emphasized the importance of training and public health preparedness in the face of recurring infectious disease outbreaks that have recently afflicted the country.

The ceremony was attended by chief doctors from the provinces of Sofala, Tete, Manica, and Zambézia, as well as INS delegates from Sofala, Tete, and Zambézia. A total of 11 health professionals graduated from the program, representing the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, and Zambézia. Among the graduates were provincial surveillance officers, surveillance focal points, and data managers.

During the ceremony, the graduates presented four system assessments, six secondary data analyses, a vaccination coverage survey, and an outbreak investigation. These presentations focused on notifiable diseases of significant public health concern for the country. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation to the graduates by the delegates and chief doctors from their respective provinces.
