7-1-7 in Action: Building a Faster, Stronger Emergency Response in Ethiopia.

Following the Training of Trainers (ToT) on the 7-1-7 Timeline Matrix for 27 FETP and PHEM experts, AFENET, in collaboration with the U.S. CDC, EPHI, Regional Health Bureaus, and Regional Public Health Institutes, successfully supported cascade trainings in Amhara, Sidama, and Harari regions, as well as Addis Ababa City Administration.

Between August 17 and September 18, 2026, a total of 121 Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) leaders and officers from regional, zonal, and woreda levels were trained through four rounds of blended learning. The training combined classroom instruction, tabletop exercises, and field-based practical activities. As part of the program, participants conducted 7-1-7 field assessments, developed assessment reports, and presented their findings to peers and facilitators.

This initiative strengthens Ethiopia’s capacity to detect, report, and respond to public health emergencies more rapidly and effectively, contributing to improved health security nationwide.
